Calaveras Fair Wraps Up
Angels Camp, CA — Nearly 45,000 made their way through the 2006 Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee this year.
The fair began Wednesday and ended Sunday. Officials say attendance was down 3,000 from last year, which is still good considering Saturday and Sunday were rainy days.
Sunday featured the junior livestock auction, which broke last year´s record, bringing in $585,000. The livestock program educates kids about breeding, raising and grooming farm animals.
Also Sunday, was the Destruction Derby. Almost 6,000 people bought tickets despite it dumping rain pretty much all day.
The derby winner this year was Chris Gascon of Jackson in his 1976 wagon. The Powder Puff Derby went to Katie Silva of Avery in her 1979 Chrysler LeBaron.
The 2007 fair will be held May 16-20.
