Accident On Highway 108 Takes Life
Twain Harte, CA– A major Monday afternoon accident in Twain Harte at the east entrance of Twain Harte Drive killed one driver and injured a motorcyclist.
The C.H.P. reports a logging truck was headed westbound on Highway 108 when a jeep proceeded into the intersection from Twain Harte Dr. The impact crushed the left side of the vehicle.
Lt. Dan Bressler, with the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department, reports the driver of the Jeep, 63 year old Tony Azavedo of Sierra Village, was transported to Sonora Regional Medical center where he was pronounced dead. The log truck driver, 34 year old Brian Townsend of Sonora, did not suffer any injuries.
A motorcyclist following the logging truck was forced to lay down his bike suffering a broken left shoulder and road rash to his hands and arms. 66 year old Robert Spengler of Modesto was treated at Tuolumne General Hospital. The Harley Davidson motorcycle traveled an additional 150 feet after Spengler hit the pavement and crashed at the bottom of a 60 foot embankment on the northside of Hwy 108 west of the intersection.
