Wildfire Threatening Mariposa, School Closed

A second wildfire is threatening the town of Mariposa today.

According to the California Department of Forestry, the Old Highway fire off Highway 140 has blacken 2,000 acres and is currently threatening 300 homes, several businesses and the water reservoir for the town of Mariposa.

Sheriff deputies have closed and evacuated Stockton Creek Road and Allred Road from Morning Star to Highway 49 south.

Over 600 firefighters battling the blaze that is about 15 percent contained.

Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries on this fire which was started by an arsonist just before 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the CDF´s Mariposa Unit says there are also no classes at Mariposa High School, and there may not be classes Tuesday.
