Calaveras Sheriff Discusses Iraq Visit
Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum, recently back from a tour in Iraq, talked about his experiences overseas during a luncheon Wednesday.
He said there were all kinds of differences, from language and culture, to simple things like driving.
“In the three weeks I was in Baghdad, I saw two shootouts over minor traffic accidents. And I saw the traffic officer trying to direct traffic. When somebody disobeyed, he cranked off a bunch of rounds. Nobody got hurt, but it´s a very, very interesting place to drive,” Downum said.
Downum spoke at a Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce Luncheon held at Greenhorn Resort in Angels Camp, Wednesday afternoon.
