Sudden Tax Upsets Lake Camanche Residents
More than 70 residents on the south shore of Lake Camanche in Calaveras County are upset about a tax they´re suddenly being told they have to pay, in the amount of 165-dollars, by the end of the month.
County tax officials say the residents have actually owed the tax for a long time, and it´s just now being assessed because the government´s just found out about them.
But that doesn´t make it any easier for the Lake Camanche residents, some of whom plan to move because of the situation.
The president of the South Shore Mobile Home Park says many of those now facing the new tax are elderly and living on a fixed income.
In addition, some residents actually are supposed to pay three years of retroactive taxes too. But those billings are on hold until a community meeting can be scheduled to discuss it.
