Davis Signs Budget Legislation

Governor Davis has signed legislation expected to provide the state with savings and spending cuts worth $8 billion over the next two years. The cuts largely are aimed at education programs. Davis says the trimming is necessary to solve the budget shortfall. The action closes a three-month struggle between the governor and lawmakers over spending cuts to be imposed before the end of the fiscal year.
