State Considers More Turkey Hunting

A week after Thanksgiving, state wildlife officials are considering a plan that would permit more hunting and relocating of wild turkeys.
They say the nonnative fowl are becoming nuisances in populated areas. There may now be a quarter-million of the birds, more than double the number of a decade ago. A pending plan by the Department of Fish and Game would endorse legislation allowing farmers to shoot nuisance birds, while permitting moving flocks to areas where they can be hunted.
The department also wants to ban residents from feeding turkeys, which can lure them to populated areas.
