Update: 60% Containment On Appaloosa Fire

Update at 7:30pm: Progress continues to be made on the Appaloosa Fire burning outside of Angels Camp. CAL Fire reports the blaze is 60% contained. The size estimate has been reduced to 310 acres.

Update at 11:25am: CAL Fire now reports that the Appaloosa Fire is 40% contained. The size estimate has been reduced to 350 acres.

Original story posted at 9am: Angels Camp, CA — The Appaloosa Fire near Angels Camp remains 425 acres and it is now 25% contained.

The fire ignited on Saturday afternoon along Appaloosa Drive, approximately two miles south of Highway 4. CAL Fire reports that it was caused by a property owner working on an electrical panel breaker box. The individual, who has not been named by fire officials, is caused with negligently causing a fire and allowing a fire to spread off his land.  The case will be submitted to the Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office for review.

The forward rate of spread has been halted on the fire, but several firefighters will remain on scene for an extended period to fully contain the blaze. Around 260 firefighters have been assigned to the incident.
