Update: Sonora Vegetation Fire Contained
Update at 4 p.m.: CAL Fire reports the Mono Fire has been contained at 4 acres. The flames broke out just before 3 p.m. along Highway 108 and Mono Way near the ford dealership. What sparked the blaze is under investigation. The eastbound lanes of Mono Way remain closed as fire vehicles and crews are still in the area mopping up, but should reopen shortly, according to CAL Fire.

Update at 3:40 p.m.: Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson reports westbound Mono Way has reopened but eastbound lanes are still closed as fire vehicles and crews are still in the area mopping up.
Update at 3:15 p.m.: CAL Fire has dubbed the blaze the “Mono Fire.” CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports that the fire is 4 acres in size and the forward rate of spread has been stopped. All aircraft have been released. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson reports that the westbound and eastbound lanes on Mono Way are closed down at the intersection up to the Peppery Restaurant, but the highway is open to traffic.
Original post at 2:55 p.m.: Sonora, CA — Ground and air resources are heading to a vegetation fire in Sonora.
CAL Fire reports the flames are burning along Highway 108 at Mono Way. There is no word on the fire’s size or the flames rate of spread or whether any structures are threatened. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom.
