Update: Fire In Stanislaus National Forest In Tuolumne County
Update at 2:10 p.m.:Â Stanislaus National Forest spokesperson Ben Cossel reports that the Soap Fire, burning in the Eagle Creek area of Tuolumne County, between 4N79 and 4N80, north of Highway 108, “has been knocked down.” The blaze is estimated at a quarter acre in size. Cossel added, “Air Attack 440, helicopter 603, tanker 82 & 83 have been released. Ground crews will continue suppression efforts.” They will work towards full containment and then mop up.
Update at 12:45 p.m.: Stanislaus National Forest spokesperson Ben Cossel updates the Soap Fire burning in the Eagle Creek area of Tuolumne County, between 4N79 and 4N80, north of Highway 108. He reports that no homes or structures are threatened. He added, “Currently engaged in the initial attacks are three Stanislaus National Forest Engines, two Tuolumne Calaveras Unit Engines, one Stanislaus National Forest Water Tender, one Stanislaus National Forest Patrol Engine, and command staff. Aviation assets from Columbia Air Attack Base are on scene making retardant drops.”
The fire remains a quarter acre in size and burning in timber at a slow rate of spread.
Original post at 12:03 p.m.: Tuolumne County, CA — Air and ground resources are heading to a vegetation fire near Eagle Creek in the Stanislaus National Forest.
Forest spokesperson Ben Cossel reports that the blaze, burning in timber, has been named the Soap Fire and is in Tuolumne County, between 4N79 and 4N80, north of Highway 108. He added that the fire is a quarter acre in size and moving at a slow rate of spread. A plume of smoke can be seen rising into the sky on the PG&E live camera.
