Sonora, CA — A crash in the early hours Saturday involving a Sonora Police officer and a motorcycle sent the rider to a Modesto trauma center with major injuries.

According to CHP Sonora Unit officials, Jaycee Eddie Alameda, a 26-year-old male from Merced, was riding a 2008 Honda motorcycle westbound on Highway 108, west of South Washington Street, as Officer Thomas Brickley was parked on the right shoulder with his rear amber warning lights activated.

The officer, who was being dispatched to another call, turned on his blue and red emergency lights and attempted a U-turn into the eastbound lane as the motorcyclist was passing his patrol vehicle and the two collided.

Sonora Police Chief Turu VanderWiel, who says the department hopes for Alameda’s full recovery, reports that the officer is home recovering from minor physical injuries and emotional effects from the tragic event.
