Larson Fire Conditions Improving
Walker, CA — The Larson Fire, covering close to 700 acres between Walker and Coleville, CA is now listed as twenty-five percent contained.
According to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center, Incident Commander Marty Scheuerman reports there was some rainfall during the night. Early morning temperature was listed at 37 degrees. Winds are expected to increase as the day progresses, but they are not expected to be as strong as the 65mph gusts experienced Tuesday.
The fire is being listed as a diminishing threat to approximately 50 homes. Neighborhoods between Larson Lane to Cunningham Lane in Walker have been evacuated due to the lightning caused fire that ignited June 1.
U.S. Highway 395 remains closed to through traffic between Holbrook Junction (Nevada State Route 208) and CA State Route 182 in Bridgeport. Fire officials are hopeful of having the highway reopened today although a time has yet to be posted.
Despite the proximity, no CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit resources are being used to fight this fire at this time according to Fire Information Officer Barbara George at the Emergency Command Center in San Andreas.
