Prop 50 Stance, Fire Insurance Update, Shutdown Impacts, On TC Supervisors Agenda

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors will discuss several items at its first meeting of October today.

An early item is whether to take a stance on Proposition 50.

At election offices across the state, voting began Monday for the Proposition 50 special election related to redistricting. The measure would reshape California’s Congressional districts in an effort to add five Democrat-held seats. Governor Gavin Newsom and Democratic leaders say the move comes in response to states like Texas, which are looking at similar moves to increase Republican seats.  The Board of Supervisors will vote on whether to take a position against Proposition 50. The item is at the request of Supervisor Steve Griefer. His proposed resolution would point out that the California Citizens Redistricting Commission was created to ensure fair and impartial elections and argues that Proposition 50 undermines the existing voter-approved framework.

Later in the meeting, there will also be a discussion and direction given on whether to reduce Environmental Health Consumer Protection Fees in the county.

There will also be a report given on the impacts of the federal government shutdown on Tuolumne County.

A 10:30 am post-wildfire presentation is planned featuring representation from the California Department of Insurance.

In addition, there will also be a vote to continue a local emergency declaration related to the TCU September Lightning Complex Fire impacts.

The board will also break into closed session to discuss the search for a new County Administrative Officer.

The regular session portion of the meeting starts at 9 am in the board meeting room at 2 South Green Street in Sonora.
