Update: Fire In Mariposa County With Evacuation Warning Lifted

Update at 3:25 p.m.: CAL FIRE reports that the forward spread of the Bear Fire, burning along Mosher Road in the Bear Valley area of Mariposa County, has been stopped at 1 and a half to 2 acres in size. The evacuation warning has been canceled for Mosher Road.

The flames ignited around 2:15 p.m. near West Whitlock Road. All aircraft have returned to Columbia Airbase. Crews will continue to work to gain full containment and then mop up for a couple of hours. What sparked the fire is under investigation.

Original post at 2:54 p.m.: Bear Valley, CA—Fire crews are working a vegetation fire named the Bear Fire on Mosher Road in the Bear Valley area of Mariposa County, where an evacuation warning has been issued.

The flames broke out around 2:15 p.m. near West Whitlock Road. CAL FIRE reports that the fire is 1 to 1 and a half acres in size and burning at a slow rate of spread. Two structures are threatened.

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has issued this evacuation warning and road closure:
