Update at 2:45 p.m.: Fire crews quickly knocked down a structure fire that broke out in a home in the Rambling Hills Estates in the Columbia area of Tuolumne County this morning. As we reported below, the flames ignited just before 11 a.m. in the single-story home off Parrotts Ferry Road, and when firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming out of the home and flames on the deck.

Neighbor Louis Leforce heard yelling and described what happened next, stating, “I heard someone yelling ‘Help’ out in the street in front of my house, so I went out to check. It was my neighbor, Janet, who was walking in the street yelling “Help,” and behind her, her house was on fire, so I went back inside, and my wife and I both called 911 to get the fire department out here.”

The woman and her two dogs were able to get out of the home unharmed, but it is unclear whether her cat made it out of the burning home. The woman told firefighters that she believed the fire started inside the garage and spread to the deck. There is no word on the damage to the home. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the home and not allow it to spread to nearby vegetation.
