Old Highway Fire Fully Contained

Sponsored by:

Officials with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection say the Old Highway Fire, the one near the town of Mariposa, is 100 percent contained.

No structures were damaged or destroyed in the blaze, which burned nearly 1350 acres.

Also all roads are open, but officials warn drivers to use caution because fire crews are still working in the area.

The cost of fighting the Old Highway Fire comes out to almost 1.3 million dollars.

Over 900 firefighters were assigned at the height of the fire to the Mariposa fire.

34-year-old Brian Chambers is suspected of arson in this case, and possibly more than a dozen other fires, in Mariposa County.
