“Early” Fire Continues To Burn
As fire crews were working Monday to contain the Calaveras Complex fires, another rash of wildfires broke out.
The largest fire continues to burn in the remote Tuolumne River canyon area of Tuolumne County near Yosemite called the Early fire..
U.S. Forest Service spokesman Pat Kaunert says the City and County of San Francisco´s Hetch Hetchy Early Intake Powerhouse is near-by. Firecrews are stationed at the facility for structure protection. The closest community, Groveland, is about 15 miles to the west. It was first reported Monday at 10 a.m.
According to Forest Service — as of 10 o´clock Monday night, the fire had burnt 500 acres. There has been no updated figures yet today. Fire officials are reassessing the blaze this morning. Expect to see a lot of smoke from this fire in the skies this morning.
Five airtankers and four helicopters will work the fire again today starting at 8 a.m.
