Tuolumne River Fire Update

The fire burning in the Tuolumne River Canyon has now grown to 200 acres and continues to grow in size.

Called the “Early” fire, this blaze is burning in the Wild and Scenic Tuolumne River Canyon near the Early Intake power house, about 15 miles east of the foothills community Groveland in the Stanislaus National Forest. The fire was first reported around 10:30 a.m.

Flames are posing a threat to the Hetch Hetchy hydo-power house on the river. The power house is owned by the City and County of San Francisco. Fire crews are being sent in to protect that facility.

More than 165 firefighters are working the blaze as well as three airtankers and 5 helicopters.

No word on cause or when firefighters expect to get containment lines started around this fire.
