Protests Follow Bush Abortion Law Signing

Sponsored by:

Just a few hours after President Bush signed a law banning some late-term abortion procedures, protesters took to the streets of San Francisco to object.

Hundreds of people waved signs and chanted as they walked up Market Street in the city´s financial district in a noontime demonstration organized by Planned Parenthood Golden Gate. At the same time, a federal judge in Nebraska blocked the administration from implementing portions of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003.

Chief U.S. District Court Judge Richard Kopf said before issuing his order protecting four doctors from prosecution that it appears to be a violation of the Constitution. He refused to make his order nationwide. The law makes it a crime for a doctor to perform any abortion where the fetus is partially removed from the womb and then killed.
