Accused Gunman Killed

A week-long manhunt after a Fresno County sheriff´s deputy was killed, led to a shootout with dozens of officers. Authorities say 21-year-old Mark Volpa Junior of Clovis was killed after he was surrounded in a camper yesterday near Auberry, and came out firing with an AR-15 rifle. Volpa was accused of killed Deputy Dennis Phelps during a traffic stop last Sunday, taking the slain deputy´s weapon, badge and patrol car. Fresno County Sheriff´s Lieutenant Robert Candarian said Volpa was spotted going into the Auberry residence yesterday, and more than 80 officers and SWAT team members surrounded the camper.
