Two Sustain Major Injuries In Separate Solo Rollover Crashes
San Andreas, CA – Two solo crashes over the weekend in Calaveras County sent two men to trauma centers; one was arrested.
Late Saturday night, a high-speed chase out of Lodi ended in a crash off Highway 49 in San Andreas. According to the CHP San Andreas Unit officials, a man piloting a 2012 Dodge Avenger at high speeds along Highway 49 while evading Lodi police, failed to negotiate a turn while heading up Carol Kennedy Drive. After colliding into several fences the vehicle landed on its roof. The driver, Jeffrey Bishop, 36, of Lodi, suffered major injuries and was taken to Lodi Memorial Hospital where he was placed into custody of the Lodi Police Department.
Around 3 p.m. Sunday, an Angels Camp man, Richard Wilmhurst, 61, also sustained major injuries, according to the CHP, in a wreck along Appaloosa Way, east of Pinto Drive. According to officials, he had been driving a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup at about 55 miles-per-hour when he drifted onto the dirt shoulder and lost control. After colliding with a barbed wire fence, the truck rolled over and started a small grass fire that was quickly extinguished by responding fire units. Wilmhurst was pulled from the vehicle and transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.
