First Weekend of October Grape Stomp and More Events

There are many events planned for the weekend of October 5th, and 6th. First, the Columbia College Orchestra Concert will be held at 7pm on Friday at the Columbia College Dogwood Theater. Hear the full orchestra performing Khachaurian, Shostakovich, an original composition by Dr. Daniel Godsil, and movie music from Ben Hur and Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1.

Saturday at Columbia College is La Fiesta-Celebrating Comunidad from 11am to 2pm in Carkeet Park. The event is a celebration of Hispanic/Latin culture, exploring elements of art, music, and food. The event is free and all are welcomed with vendors and community partners on hand to showcase their products, services, and contributions to the celebration of culture and community.

The 2024 Natural Resources Expo is Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM in the Sierra Building at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. The a free family event is presented by TuCare to educate about our local natural resources. Speakers include California State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil.

In Murphys catch a whole day of family fun Saturday on Main Street at the 32nd Annual Faire. Artisan vendors line the street to celebrate the harvest with arts, crafts, grapes, and more. The Grape Stomp, hosted by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance, occurs in the park at the same time as the Street Faire. Eat, drink, shop, and enjoy both events all day long.

Saturday you can also walk the streets of Twain Harte and indulge in beer, wine, and food tastings from over ten restaurants and bars. Ticket holders are eligible to participate in the Stein Holding competition and a Yodeling competition. Ticket details are here.

The Tuolumne County Handmade Parade will be in Jamestown hosted by the Tuolumne County Arts at Rocca Park. The free half day of arts and entertainment for all ages is followed by a parade of costumes, creations, and performances. Main St. will then be temporarily closed around dusk for participants to have the opportunity to show off their custom creations. This year’s theme is Trashion (trash + Fashion) Expect giant puppets, dances, marching bands, and stay after the parade for performances.

The West Point Boosters Club is holding the Lumberjack Day Celebration on Saturday. The event celebrates the history and traditions of the Calaveras County lumber industry with fun, family-friendly entertainment that will include a parade, a soap box derby, a petting zoo, food, music and more.

The Tuolumne County Alliance for Resources and the Environment (TuCare) will be hosting a community expo this coming weekend at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. Details are in Wednesday’s news story here.

The Mariposa, Amador, Calaveras & Tuolumne Health Board, also known as MACT, presents the BIG TIME Health and Wellness Fair this Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM at the MACT Medical Campus on Highway 49 north of San Andreas. The Aronos Club is open on the first Saturday of each month from 7:00pm to 9:00pm for social dancing. There’s a variety of dancing from, Ballroom, Country, Swing, Latin, even line dancing. Organizers encourage attendees who will meet new friends, welcoming all ages and abilities, and if you don’t have a partner, come anyway.

Sierra Repertory Theatre (SRT) Jr invites you to Romeo and Juliet. Abridged from William Shakespeare’s classic play, this 50-minute-long production, performed entirely by SRT Jr students, plays at the Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Historic Park Friday, October 4 at 6pm, Saturday, October 5 at 12pm and 6pm, and Sunday, October 6 at 12pm.

The Standard Farmers Market is open 4 pm to dusk on Fridays through October 18th. The last Angels Camp Farmers Market is this Friday from 5 to 8 pm. The Sonora Farmers Market continues Saturday mornings until October 12th. The Farmers Market at Murphys Community Park is open this Sunday as detailed here, until October 27.

Rotary Club of Groveland is sponsoring the last Flea Market of the season Saturday in Groveland. Details are here.

Sunday the 48th Sonora Bach Festival begins with the Youth Concert. The concert begins at 3 pm at the Chapel in the Pines in Twain Harte. The guest artist is Roy Mendiola. Tickets are $10 to listen to twenty youth finalist scholarship winners who will perform their pieces and receive a $100 scholarship.
