59% Containment On Peak Fire In Forest
Pinecrest, CA — The fire’s movement has been halted on the Peak Fire near Herring Creek in the Stanislaus National Forest, and efforts continue to build a 100-foot buffer around containment lines.
The incident command team reports, “Our biggest concern remains dealing with the large number of hazard trees in and around the burn area. Snags are one of the major issues for our firefighter’s safety. working around them, and the potential that they could fall and compromise the fire control lines.”
While the forward progress is stopped, the fire is only considered 59% contained. It is 316 acres.
Spot fires are still a concern due to the unseasonably warm and dry weather.
The Forest Service adds that there will be increased activity on the Herring Creek Road today due to the cattle trucks hauling livestock out of area. They are asking the public to stay out of that region.
There are 178 firefighters still assigned to the incident, seven engines, five water tenders, five hand crews, and two helicopters.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
