Fire Restrictions Lifted On Forest
Sonora, CA — The Stanislaus National Forest has lifted fire restrictions.
On Friday, forest fire officials announced that the bans that were originally put into effect in early July under Forest Orders 16-2024-08 and 16-2024-09 have been rescinded due to cooler and wetter weather patterns moving across the forest. The original order was to protect natural resources and provide for public safety, and visitors are reminded to remain vigilant when it comes to fire safety and preventing wildfires.
“Fireworks are never allowed on public lands,” according to forest fire officials, adding, “Restrictions have also lifted for shooting firearms in these areas as well, but please exercise caution, as recreational shooting has caused fires in the past.”
Follow these campfire best practices provided by fire officials:
- Clear all flammable material away from the fire at a minimum of five feet in all directions.
- Make a fire only if you have a shovel and sufficient water to put it out.
- Never leave your campfire unattended.
- Never build a campfire on a windy day.
- Make sure your campfire is completely out. Drown it with water and stir with dirt, making sure all burned materials are extinguished. Feel with your hand to make sure it’s out cold.
