A-TCAA And Tuolumne Economic Development

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority (TCEDA) will discuss a one year agreement with Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency (A-TCAA) at its governing board meeting Friday morning.

The proposed one year agreement with TCEDA will provide assistance to A-TCAA through February 28, 2013. The agreement offers $12,000 for services to business community on behalf of A-TCAA as part of a new broadband grant.

A-TCAA Executive Director Shelly Hance says that further details about the grant will be released later this week. Hance said the agreement with TCEDA will help work toward widespread broadband internet access and use, including e-commerce for businesses. The overall goal of the grant is to promote a high level of digital literacy in the Sierra Foothills communities.

In March 2008 A-TCAA secured a $250,000 grant from the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF) to help five rural Sierra counties improve high speed Internet access for all households and businesses. A program, called Central Sierra Connect, was part of a statewide effort to help rural counties gain 100 percent coverage for high speed internet and encourage wider use of technology by all residents. Part of that grant funded a map of the broadband footprint in the regions of Amador, Alpine, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne counties. The map is located here.
