Pacific Gas Electric´s bankruptcy is turning into a boon to the state´s environment.
As part of its bankruptcy settlement, San Francisco-based PG & E agreed to permanently set aside more than 140,000 acres of wilderness.
Most of the land is in the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountains. The properties contain important sources of drinking water, old-growth forests, world-renowned fishing streams and a variety of wildlife and fish habitats.
