The murder case against Scott Peterson may be considerably weakened — if experts fail to determine how Laci Peterson died. That´s now a distinct possibility, with coroner´s officials saying the badly decomposed bodies of Peterson and her unborn son may prove too baffling even for modern science.

Contra Costa County sheriff spokesman Jimmy Lee says in these situations with the bodies, “there´s a real possibility we may never know the exact cause of death.”
