Valley Springs, CA—Fire crews are making strides on the Gann Fire burning near New Hogan Lake in the Valley Springs area of Calaveras County as the containment climbs and the acreage grows by just ten acres, allowing some evacuees to return to their homes.
CAL FIRE reports that the containment has reached 33 percent while the acreage grew by just ten acres to 10,384 acres. Additionally, some evacuated residents have been allowed to return to their homes (click here for those zone details). CAL Fire stresses that utility crews are still in the area working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. This work is ongoing, and some people may continue to be without power after returning to their properties. Resources are available for community members affected by the fire:
- Resource Connection Food Bank: Calaveras County residents with photo ID and proof of residency who need assistance can visit the food bank during normal operations on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9-4 p.m. (closed for lunch 12-12:30), or call (209) 754-1257.
- The Red Cross can assist residents who have homes that were damaged or destroyed if it meets their criteria. Proof of residency, photo ID, and proof of damage can be submitted with the Red Cross at either evacuation shelter to get the process started. Residents have up to 14 days to contact the Red Cross for help after the shelters close, with a few exceptions.
